Treating a Yeast Infection

Yeast infections are quite common. Nearly 75% of women have experienced one at least once in their lifetime. While it may be an uncomfortable problem, know that Pacific Women’s Center can help you treat yeast infections easily and discreetly.

Yeast infections occur when the natural balance of yeast and bacteria in the vagina is disrupted, which causes the over production of the Candida fungus. The balance can be disrupted by a number of causes such as menstrual periods, hormonal changes, or even from the use of antibiotics.

Some of the symptoms may include:

  • Itching, redness and irritation in the vagina or on the vulva
  • Burning sensation that worsens while urinating or during intercourse
  • Vaginal pain, swelling or soreness
  • Thick, white vaginal discharge

Though yeast infections can be treated with over the counter antifungal medications, you should still see your Pacific Women’s Center physician. The symptoms of a yeast infections can be very similar to those associated with sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia and gonorrhea.

If this is the first time you are experiencing a yeast infection or if you are unsure whether you have a yeast infection, schedule an appointment with your gynecologist right away. Similarly, if you have recurring infections (four or more in a year), or over the counter medications haven’t worked, your physician will be able to help alleviate your symptoms.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, please give us a call at 541-342-8616 today to schedule an appointment.
